A few months ago, a company invited me for an interview. They said they liked me, but felt it wasn’t a good fit. Since then, I’ve actually done more work in that particular area, and they just reposted the role. Should I apply with an updated résumé, or is that too pushy?

Demonstrating continued interest in a company that previously did not hire you is not being pushy, it is being persistent, which is a good trait to have when trying to land a job. Absolutely reapply with an updated résumé, but more importantly explain your continued interest in the company and why, and what you have learned and how you have grown since you interviewed there last.

You don’t know what wasn’t “a good fit” last time — was it your skill and experience for the role, or was it personality style and culture? The former is easier to overcome and the employer will be more receptive to reconsidering you for a new role that might indeed be a good fit for now, since you have acquired new skills and experience. If it was the latter, though, they might not care how much your résumé has changed. But, you won’t know unless you try, so make your pitch.
