A distraught 90-year-old man shot his wife dead and killed himself in an apparent murder-suicide inside a Pennsylvania nursing home, according to reports.

The drama unfolded Thursday at the Manatawny Manor nursing home in East Coventry township, when the man allegedly walked into his 89-year-old wife’s room at the home and fatally shot her, before turning the gun on himself, according to a report by WFMZ-TV News.

The man was “severely injured” and later died at the hospital, the outlet said.

Police in Pennsylvania responded to shots fired at the Manatawny Manor nursing home in a murder-suicide.

“He’s someone who’s been here a number of times before,” Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe told the station. “I’m sure he said something when he came in, but whether that had anything to do with what happened here today it’s so early for us.

“We’re treating this incident as an isolated incident,” he said. “The nursing home here has done everything in their power and continues to provide resources to people who are living in the facility.”

Police did not identify the shooter or his wife.

Relatives of other residents at the nursing home said the shooting startled everyone.

“He just said he heard some ruckus going on and that they closed his room door and as I was talking to him, they opened the door again,” Pat Erb of Boyerton said of his dad. “He was OK.”

According to police the 90-year-old gunman had visited his wife at the Manatawny Manor nursing home before.
