The creepy estate that Adolf Hitler’s chief of propaganda used as a love den is being given away for free after being on the market for decades without attracting any buyers.

Joseph Goebbels’ now-dilapidated 42-acre property is owned by the state of Berlin after being used by the allies as a military hospital following World War II and as a youth camp by the Soviet Union in the years after that.

The wooded estate near Lake Bogensee has lain empty since 2000, with the villa crumbling, The Telegraph reported, leading the state government to decide to offer it to anyone who will take it.

“I offer to anyone who would like to take over the site, to take it over as a gift from the state of Berlin,” Stefan Evers, the state’s finance senator, said in the Berlin House of Representatives this week.

Goebbels, a member of Hitler’s inner circle who committed suicide a day after the Third Reich leader, had the house built in 1936, and used it for affairs with several actresses.

The house has troubled the government because of the cost of its upkeep and dark past.

It is actually in the neighboring state of Brandenburg, which so far has been reluctant to take it over because of the enormous costs involved with renovating it — estimated at around $375 million

If no one takes it, “then the state of Berlin will have no other option than to carry out a demolition,” Evers said, which will cost the state about $55 million.
