AUSTIN — Mansfield sophomore Zion Robinson is certainly not lacking for confidence when it comes to his athletic prowess.“Best three-sport athlete in the country,” he said.Robinson is a star wide receiver in football and said he already has an offer from national champion Michigan, along with TCU, Ole Miss and San Diego State. He plays varsity basketball. And now he is a state champion in track. In just his second year competing in the high jump, Robinson shared the Class 6A state title in the event with Cibolo Steele senior Zaire Cunningham, with each clearing 6 feet, 8 inches. Jersey Village junior Landon Freeman also cleared 6-8, but Robinson and Cunningham earned the state title because neither had a miss before they got to 6-9, while Freeman missed four times before the bar went up to 6-9.“It feels good,” Robinson said after matching his personal best. “I jumped good.”Robinson also runs on Mansfield’s 4×100 relay team that qualified for state. It was only because of his coaches that he started high jumping.“I went to the track and the coaches said do high jump, so I went over there,” he said.Related:As Kailey Littlefield ends amazing career in 800, Cooper Lutkenhaus is just starting hisRelated:Lancaster girls showcase relay dominance at state, capture first 5A team title since 2021Find more high school sports coverage from The Dallas Morning News here.Sign up for our FREE HS newsletter.
