Oroarezzo is launching a Career Day initiative this year in order to help support the growth of the … [+] Italian jewelry industry.Lorenza Ricci Studio
The 43rd edition of Oroarezzo opens Saturday May 11th, 2024 at the Arezzo Fiere e Congressi convention hall. This annual international jewelry event, organized by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), will be hosting and showcasing leading Made in Italy gold and jewelry producers and related exhibitors until Tuesday May 14th.
65 percent of the product range on offer at Oroarezzo embodies gold and silver jewelry, semi-finished products and components, plus precious and semi-precious stones. Technologies for the jewelry sector embody 17 percent of the offer, while cash and carry accounts for 13 percent and visual merchandising and packaging totals five percent. While Made in Italy jewelry is a world leader in terms of design integrity, trends, material and artisanal value, the Arezzo sector exported 3.491 billion euros worth of jewelry in 2023, which represented a 9.4 per cent increase over 2022 figures. The Arezzo district, still Italy’s national leader, produces 30.5 per cent of Italy’s total jewelry exports.
Opening Day At Oroarezzo
After today’s opening ceremony, the round table discussion entitled “Oroarezzo at the center of Italian manufacturing excellence in the world” will take place. Led by Nicola Saldutti, chief economics editor for Corriere della Sera, participants include Mauro Benvenuto, president of the Provincial Council of Arezzo Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, Matteo Masini, of the Italian Trade Agency Consumer Goods Office, Leonardo Marras, Tuscany Regional Councillor for Economics and Productive Activities, and the Hon. Tiziana Nisini, Vice-President of the 11th Commission for Public and Private Employment. Given the industry and economic brains gathered around this table, it will be intriguing to hear how new technologies are shaping Italian jewelry manufacturing and the marketing promotions of Italian jewelry around the world.
One of the main reasons why Oroarezzo is an influential show for designers, wholesalers, manufacturers, retailers and press is that it presents some of the latest manufacturing technologies. Oroarezzo is where designers and manufacturers encounter the equipment that can help them further their capabilities by producing more technically advanced jewels. In addition, IEG’s program of events and conferences for this show promises to engage, inform and benefit attendees from all aspects of the supply chain. Among the various topics to be explored include surface treatment technologies for jewelry and fashion accessories, and the present and future directions of the retail trade for jewelry stores. What’s more, Oroarezzo is also where important jewelry designs and advances in sustainable jewelry production, packaging and other vitally important products are exhibited.

IEG’s Matteo Farsura
According to Matteo Farsura, the Global Exhibition Manager for IEG’s Jewellery & Fashion Division, “Oroarezzo is a key date in the calendar year for many in the industry because as the price of gold rises, designers and manufacturers are looking for technically advanced equipment that uses less gold to create jewels of maximum beauty.” As Farsura explained in a Zoom interview a few weeks before the event, “It’s also true that at Oroarezzo, one can go deep into specific segments of the supply chain, as there are many leading suppliers and designers here.”
Equally important, Farsura observed, “Oroarezzo is the international reference platform for Made in Italy manufacturing, especially in the realm of unbranded or “white label” production.” “Oroarezzo is also a showcase for designers who are competing in the 33rd edition of the Première design competition, which is open to designers under the age of 30.” While Premiere is open to students from goldsmithing schools within the “Talents” category, the winner of Première gets matched with an Italian producer who will manufacture their jewels.
Almost 400 Exhibitors
Farsura manages Oroarezzo along with such other major international shows as Vicenzaoro, T. Gold, The Italian Jewelry Summit, Valenza Gem Forum, VO’Clock Privé and VO Vintage, plus the JFTD in Dubai and Singapore’s SIJE. As Farsura related, “This year’s edition of Oroarezzo features over 370 exhibiting brands, which represents five per cent more than showed in 2023,” Farsura noted. “87% of the brands are Italian with more than half from Tuscany.” Other Italian regions represented at Oroarezzo include Veneto, Lombardy and Piedmont. The other 13 percent come from the U.S., the U.A.E., Asia and Eastern Europe. and about 400 foreign buyers from 60 countries will be hosted through the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) program. (In 2022, buyers came from 55 countries.)
Building The Future Of The Jewelry Industry Today
Because IEG is committed to supporting training and job opportunities for today and tomorrow’s sector operators, “We are launching a Career Day this year at Oroarezzo,” Farsura said. “The goal is to connect industrial demand with supply by matching students with jewelry companies that are looking to find new employees.” IEG is dedicated to supporting jewelry trade training and job placement for young workers as demand for jewelry has skyrocketed in the aftermath of Covid. “While demand for jewelry production in Italy multiplied exponentially,” Farsura observed, “the industry still needs more people and goldsmiths to fulfill the orders and to keep on growing.” While this is in a sense an enviable problem, “It’s one that Oroarezzo, IEG and other stakeholders in the Italian jewelry industry are committed to working together to resolve,” Farsura said.
