It was the final project for my graduation, so I was searching for a challenging assignment in the IT/tech field. I was already finalizing an internship with another company when a HackerOne engineering leader reached out. Although HackerOne does not have a formal internship program, he wanted to give me the opportunity, and after digging into the company’s mission and vision, I was immediately impressed. The marketplace was intriguing, and the positive impact of the work made me feel like this was the right place for me. Due to HackerOne’s strict security policies, it was nerve-wracking to dive in without knowing the full details, but something felt right. What attracted me to HackerOne was its mission to make the internet safer and the unique marketplace it has built. The company’s vision to positively impact the world resonated with me. It’s not just about the tech—it’s about contributing to something bigger. What was your overall internship experience like at HackerOne?The internship was challenging yet rewarding. I had to be proactive and find a project that would suit my and the organization’s needs. Initially, the assignment wasn’t enough for a graduation project, so I took it upon myself to explore different departments and identify opportunities. Eventually, I found a project that aligned perfectly with what I was looking for and what the company needed. It was a fantastic learning experience.“During my internship, I learned the importance of communication and collaboration. Navigating an organization like HackerOne taught me to be resourceful and adaptable. These skills have been invaluable in my current role, where cross-team collaboration is essential.”How did you navigate transitioning from an internship to a full-time staff position? As my internship ended, I knew I wasn’t ready to leave HackerOne. There was still so much to learn and explore. I had several conversations with department heads and found a position within the Product Operations department that matched my skills and interests. The transition felt seamless because I was already familiar with the team and the company’s culture. It was exciting to continue my work and grow within the organization. What do you enjoy about your current role, and what is something you are working towards?I love my current role! The best part is the opportunity to collaborate across different teams and work on projects that align with my career goals. I am passionate about becoming a product manager, and I’ve been given multiple opportunities to develop my skills in this area. I’m grateful for the support and mentorship I’ve received from my colleagues.I’m developing my skills and learning from the amazing people at HackerOne. My goal is to contribute to the company’s growth and help shape the future of our products. What advice would you give current students or aspiring interns looking to start their careers? My advice to aspiring interns is to be patient, trust the process, and enjoy the journey. It’s important to be open about your goals and ambitions with your manager and peers. Let them know what you’re aiming for so they can support your career growth. Remember, if someone else can achieve their goals, so can you. Just stay focused and dedicated, and the results will come.“I’d like to emphasize the importance of communication and collaboration in any role.
